PAS 100 Mulch/ Soil Improver

PAS 100 Mulch/ Soil Improver

Delivery usually within 5 working days, but if we have space in our schedule we are able to do same day. We will tip to the nearest hard standing from the road, or elsewhere if specified, as long as we can access with a van & trailer. We recommend you have a sheet or other material for us to tip onto - a 3m x 3m tarpaulin is fine but double to at least 6m x 3m if you want to store and cover the mulch.

Made from the same green waste that we remove from customers' gardens, this peat-free PAS 100 certified mulch is ideal for placing in borders, or for mixing into topsoil as an improver.

First composted for a number of months, the green waste is then shredded and graded before being composted for further additional time. This leaves a course, compost-type consistency thats packed with beneficial bacteria and nutrients.

We're really proud of this product as the raw materials, production and final placement are all super local, which not only helps reduce our business' carbon footprint, but also keeps the super-carbon-sink creating peat (which traditional makes compost) where it prefers to stay, in the bogs!

So you ask, why use mulch when I can simply leave it as bare soil and pull out the inevitable weeds? Well, mulch, laid to a proper thickness, has many benefits. An organic mulch, such as PAS 100, will greatly reduce the incidence of weeds. Any weeds that do appear can be easily pulled out due to it's loose consistency. When installed and for a few months thereafter, the mulch has a lovely dark colour that contrasts deeply with lawns and plants, really capturing the eye and creating a focal point.

The mulch will also help the soil retain moisture in warm weather, a paramount benefit in today's world of 40c + temperatures, whilst also preserving precious water. Conversely, in cold weather, mulch will help protect root zones and herbaceous perennials from frost. Finally, the mulch will improve the oragnic content of the soil, feeding your precious cultivars.
Bonus feature - over time, the mulch will also help break down clay soils.

The mulch will last around a year, after which a new layer should be installed.

A trailer load is around 20 standard wheel barrows, we counted.

We can tip onto the nearest hard standing or for an extra cost we can book in an additional job and spread onto your borders (or wherever you would like it).

Strickly speaking, mulch is any material used to cover soil, and can be bark, PAS 100, gravel, cardboard, etc. We do not recommend using a non-organic mulch!
